Kemenpan RB supports Soekarno’s speech as a world memory heritage

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Kemenpan RB supports the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) to archive the Speech of the First President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno as a world memory heritage or Memory of the World from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO).

Soekarno’s speech entitled To Build the World a New, which was read at the UN General Assembly on September 30, 1960, is an archive belonging to ANRI which will be submitted as a UNESCO documentary heritage.

“I need to emphasize that the Kemenpan RB strongly supports ANRI’s efforts in making the archives of President Soekarno’s Speech entitled To Build the World a New as the collective memory of the world or Memory of the World,” said Tjahjo at the opening ceremony of the World Memory Week organized by ANRI online, Monday.

With this speech, continued Tjahjo, Soekarno had realized one of Indonesia’s national goals, namely by realizing world peace.

Soekarno, continued Tjahjo, had played a role in realizing world peace by placing Indonesia in the world political arena, starting with the 1955 Asia-Africa Summit in Bandung and culminating in the Non-Aligned Movement I Summit in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1961.

“Indonesia through Bung Karno did not stop voicing for the reduction of tension between the two major world blocs at that time, namely the United States and the Soviet Union,” said Tjahjo.

Meanwhile, the Head of ANRI Imam Gunarto said that the submission of the archive of Soekarno’s speech to become a UNESCO world heritage was based on the thoughts of the first Indonesian president who was influential in international relations.

“This represents the pinnacle of Soekarno’s thoughts and struggles in leading Indonesia and having a significant influence internationally,” said Imam.

The archive collection of Soekarno’s speech is stored in ANRI and Indonesia has received support from a number of friendly countries to submit it as a UN documentary heritage.

In addition to Soekarno’s speech, ANRI also proposed two archives to become UNESCO’s documentary heritage, namely the Archives of the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement I and Hikayat Aceh.

The Archives of the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement I are joint nomination filed with Serbia and Algeria, and has obtained letter of support of the countries attending the summit.

“Meanwhile, the Hikayat Aceh archive was submitted jointly between Indonesia and the Netherlands, because it belongs to ANRI and KITLV (Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde) Netherlands,” said Imam.
